DANGER OF A STRIKE.

The following motion was passed at a meeting of the Christchurch Tailoring Trade Union, and it was decided to forward it to the Government :—"That this union urges the Government to take over the coal industry of this Dominion as a national service. The coal owners have failed to meet the needs of consumers during the war period, and are also at the present juncture refusing to meet the Miners' Federation to arrange conditions and wages; the latter action being an infringement of the rights of workers' combination, and likely to lead to industrial turmoil, in which consumers of coal, and the public generally, will be inconvenienced even more than at present, Therefore, we are of the opinion that the Government should follow this suggestion to prevent such a catastrophe as a strike.
