CRIMINAL SITTINGS
5 The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court were continued yesterday afternoon before his Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Eobert Stout). ALLEGED CARNAL KNOWLEDGE. '■■', In the case of William Donald Stirling, charged with having had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years of age, the jury failed to agree. William John Love, similarly charged, had already been found not , guilty. Mr. Macassey applied for anew trial of Stirling, which was granted and set down for Thursday. I USE OF THE KNIFE. '■'■ Anders Berg Anderson pleaded not guilty to a charge of haying inflicted bodily harm on Thomas Hickey at Wellington on 26th June. Mr. P. W. JackSon appeared for the defence. « Mr. J. Graham was foreman of the jury. .. , . ' Hickey,.' who is a wharf labourer, itated that on the date in question he and accused were in the diningroom of the Queen's Private Hotel, where they were boarding. They had an altercation and Anderson called him a "- pig." Anderson then became aggressive, and Hickey knocked him down. Anderson was first out of the diningroom, but subsequently returned, and stabbed him in the left shoulder with a pocket knife. y The jury . found a verdict of ' guilty, and his Honour remanded accused fote Sentence until Saturday, remarking that probably he would be dealt with as an inebriate for. special treatment. .
