ST. JOHN AMBULANCE AND RED CROSS
The Committee of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and Red Cross Society, in its quarterly report and balance sheet (the latter of which appears in another coulmn.) states tliat during the last three months goods were sent to London, Egypt, and Mesopotamia to the approximate value of £2350, of which a large proportion consisted of foodstuffs sent to Mesopotamia on behalf of Feilcling Red Cross, and to London by Otaki and Rongomai Guilds. The work is still maintained at the depot, and workers como rogularly, notwithstanding the severe weather experienced lately. The country societies have also kept np their usual generous supply of both goods and money, for which the committee owe their thanks and appreciation. It is a matter for congratulation that with the very large amount of goods sent away, tho great bulk of it has'reached its destination, and has been distributed, to the various hospitals containing New Zealanders or others?, as letters of thanks and appreciation from Lady Jekyll and others will prove. It will be seen by the balance- sheet that working expenses are kept at ;!,. very low figure. The Petonc Red Cross Shop and Woodward-street Red Cross Shop Committees are to bo congra.tula.ted upon the continued' success of their efforts. While maintaining these efforts, members of the above society have found time to assist, other patriotic organisations in their efforts to raise ■money. Thanks are due to ail those who have contributed so generoxisly by giving their time, labour, and 1 money to the cause for which so many are giving iheir lives.
