"THE KENTUCKY DARKIES"
A farther step towards developing the entertaining talent of Wellington was made last night at thn inaugural meeiing of a minstrel foroiipa, which is to be known as "The Kentucky Darkies.^ The troupe will revive the "coon songs" so popular, some years ago, and will specially aim at providing eniertainnicnts in aid of suitable and deserving objects of a social or patriotic nature. Mr. Joseph Lewis presided over the mesfeinsj. at 'Which there was an attendance of about 100, and the secretory, Mr. H Coleinan, was kept busily engaged receiving applications for membership. It was decided to hold, the first rehearsal of the society next week. Mr. do Lacy Peek has been appointed honorary conductor. The proceedings closed with an impromptu entertainment, items being contributed by Messrs. G. Wan-on, A. Howe, Val. Atkinson, Oakley.VN. F. Dunlop, J J. Casey, L. A. Whitaker, Farrell, M. E: Nolan. W. Probyn, Hank Portei'e, Whitham, Ray Thompsbn,' A. D. Thompson, D. Andrews, Lieutenant G. ,B. Carter, and Private Kett. Mr. J. Battersby was accompanist.
