To stimulate its readers to "knit, knit, knit," the Now y*>rk Sun has started a, soolc-song 1 competition. Throe prizeseach week are awarded (in wool) for tho three best verses, whether written by man, woman, .or child. We reprint the following samples: —

And my thoughts go back to the nursery dim When I knitted the first wee sock for him. White, was the wool which I used that day, . . ; But I'm prouder far of 'the thread of I .. grey, . , ■ As I weave eaoh mesh with tendereet care For the feet that manhood's burden, bare; For the men that have gono in jubilant youth To battle for honour, for home, and truth. Every Sammy needs a pair, to keep him over there, So get your ball and'tumblo into line; If you want to make a hit. then knit;, knit, knit,. Don't stand around a-thinking any more; It's a pair of socks or two, and the thingie up to you, If you really want to help to win the war! '
