PIGEONS FOR THE FRONT

10 THE EDITOR. Sir, —In reply to your correspondent of yesterday re pigeons, a little knowledge is dangerous. In the first place, Major Osborne is in charge of the pigeon : post of Great Britain; in the second jplace, all the fanciers at Home who supply pigeons to the Government are allowed food free of cost: in the third j place a great number of the _ fanciers who supply pigeons to the British Government are men of means. I have looked through our lists of trophy givers and fanciers but cannot see the name- of your correspondent. Our thanks are due to the men who have assisted us in our sport, but we have been look- ; ing for a gentleman like the correspondent who would buy our surplus birds (instead of putting them in the pot) to enable us to carry on better, and then we could assist the Government by leting it have the birds it requires. If the writer is patriotic enough to come along with a few sacks of peas, the writer of j this letter will sacrifice the coming season's flying so that he can give forty young birds instead of a dozen at proBent. The Wellington Homing Society has been unfortunate in losing several members lately from various causes, and if our correspondent would like to, join and assist us, we will be only too pleased to have him a member, and then he will know all about the cost of keeping the pigeon flag flying.—l am, A FLYING FANCIER.
