A FIRE

An outbreak of fire occurred shortly before 8.30 last night at No. 7, Lewis-ville-terrace (off Tinakori-road, and, though the brigade was promptly called, the fire obtained a strong hold, and both .the building and its contents were severely damaged before the blaze was extinguished. , The house was occupied by Mr. Patrick O'Callaghan, and was owned by Mrs. Elizabeth Monaghan, of Carterton. There was no insurance on the furniture, and it is not at present known whether j the building was covered.. It is thought that the outbreak was due to a defective j chimney.
