TELEGRAPH COMMUNICATION

INTERRUPTED

Another snowfall and a south-westerly storm have occurred in the South Island, and telegraphic communication is again interrupted in some districts. The gale reached Wellington about 11 o'clock last night, and to-day it was apparent that there had been a heavy fall of snow on the mountain ranges to the east of Wellington. The Dominion Meteorologist reports that the storm has extended over the South Island, but appears to have been most felt in the northern parts of that island.

The Telegraph Office advised at 11 a.m. to-day that one wire was recovered to Christchurch and one to Greymouth. A delay in telegrams for Christchurch and Dunedin will take place as a result of the dislocation.

Tiie Masterton correspondent of The Post telegraphs:—Masterton was visited by a violent southerly gale last night. To-day thick snow is falling in the town. Tiie gale has been severely felt in Petone and the Hutt Valley generally, but with -exception of a few levelled fences no damage has yet been reported. The sea is breaking right over the sea wall on the Petone Esplanade, but the wall is standing well.

The General Post Office issued a notification at 11 a.m. that there was no telegraphic communication with offices south of Kaikoura and Nelson. There was a heavy snowstorm in the South last night.
