WHAKATANE, This Day. A fire yesterday gutted two shops in a Main-street block—those of J. Clarke's (watchmaker's) and Wong Leo Company (laundry and fruiterer). The brigade and a brick partition wull prevented tho spread of the fire through the block, which'included the Post Office adjoining. The insurances are: On building £700 in the South British office; Clarke's stock £700 in tho Alliance and £175 in the Standard.
