CELEBRATIONS IN AMERICA.

There was a nation-wide observation of Bastille Day. The Tricolour was flown from all public buildings. President Wilson sent a message to President Poincare as follows : "The Fourteenth of July, like the Fourth of July, has taken on a new significance throughout the whole world. We celebrate the Fourteenth as France celebrated the Fourth. .This war is being fought to save ourselves from intolerable things, and also to save mankind."

Mr. N. D,. Baker {Secretary for War) sent this statement to France: "We were comrades at the beginning of our democratic careers. France and the United States are again brothers in arms in the defence of democracy."
