NOTES AND COMMENTS

<»X "SIB LANCELOT.' ) Mr. W. Corlett superintended the shipping of Sir Agnes last night. .Ha reminded me that the gelding was among the runners in the Winter Cup last year and finished out of a place with 9.3. It was the previous year that the horse got something that did not agree with him after arrival at Riccarton, and could not run. After working Snub at Opaki yesterday morning, \V. Hawthorns changed his mind about taking him South, and he did not accompany his stable-mates South last night. Mr. Kemball's trainer informed mo that the Australian trip would probably be undertaken in January, and that Hymestra would be the mainstay of the team. , ■ Miss De Val did not start on either day at Trentham. She is doing good work, and is to fulfil her Winter Cup engagement. She was unlucky in the same race last year, a.nd in the August Handicap put up a great race, by running second to Disdainful, in receipt of a stone and a half. Although so far nothing has been definitely decided, it is thought-that Sleight of Hand may run in the Grand National Hurdles, and. Yellow and Black be the elect of the stable in the Grand National Steeplechase. Sir Agnes went South last night in charge of W. Garrott, who also took Sir Solo, who is to make another attempt to win the Grand National Hurdles, and Master Boris, who will compete in the Hack Hurdle events. The Opaki trainer informed me that he had not heard anything about the proposal to send Master Boris to Australia. Sir Solo had run second and third the last two years in the Grand National Hurdles, and his owner expected him to go one better next month. Trainer Garrett admitted that the prospects of defeating horses like Art, Sleight-of-Hand, and Gladful did not appear too bright. Coalition will probably leave for Riccarton at the end of the month. The jumper will be the only representative of J. W. Lowe's stable at the Grand National Meeting. Sardinia is being kept going at Trenfcham, and will go South for tha Winter Cup. The Provocation gelding has gone through -the season without a win, and appears just good enough to get beaten in whatever company he starts. After the Wellington Meeting, Undecided went into H. Kingan's Trentham stable. The Winter Cup candidate Hiero was shipped South last night. At Napier Park Hiero surprised his connections by running second in the Stewards' Stakes, a mile race, when he wae not considered to be quite.ready. He finished in front of a good field, including Bapd.'id, winner of the Parliamentary Handicap. Detroit, who ran 6econd each day at Trenthsim, Hylhis, and Hydrus, winners at Hastings, and others.
