Mr. James Kerr, J.P., presided over the monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court to-day. May Whelan, charged with the' theft of a ring, was remanded to Wellington, and all other cases ware adjourned till the next monthly sitting of the Court, except the undefended civil case of the Union Clothing Co., Ltd., v. A. W. Lacey, in which judgment for plaintiff by default for the sum of £3 3s 6d, with Ss costs, was given. Messrs. H&rcourt and Co. will offer at their rooms, to-morrow, at 1.30 p.m., a collection of paintings by such woll-known •artists as J. D, Perrett, L. W. Wilson, C. , H. Howarth, and others.
