MASTERTON, This Day. The Masterton Borough Council has decided to "receive".a letter from the Gisborne Borough Council, recommending more vigorous steps for the internment of alien subjects. , The general manager of the State Fire Insurance Department has .idvised the Masterton Borough Council that he will be pleased to confer with representatives of the citizens of Masterton in reference to fire insurance matters. Loans advanced to returned' soldiers by the Wairarapa Patriotic Association up till 30th June, including repayments, amounted to £3317 3s. Tenders are about to be called for the erection of a post office at tho Taraumea soldiers' settlement. From thirteen applicants, Mr. Arthur Pond has been appointed sexton to the borough of Masterton. There are at present 1759 consumers of gas in Masterton. The manufacture of gas at the local gasworks for the month of June showed an increase of 13.24iper cent., compared with the"same month last year. , . '. .
