A LULL IN THE STORM

Brfghfc flashes of lightning- and rolling peals of thunder preceded a very heavyfall of hail in and in the vicinity of Wellington last night shortly after 7 o'clock. Tho shower- lasted a few minutes only, but the ground was completely covered, and as tho night was very cold, the hail still lay in sheltered spots this morning. The fall was particularly heavy in tho Hutt Valley, and'a resident this morning reported that the hail lay deep enough to afford the local small boys an opportunity of a very fair imitation of snowballing.

The Dominion Meteorologist reported to-day that the westerly storm still rules, and couth-west gales were reported at several places this morning. Bad weather has been experienced generally during the night, and hail squalls wore also reported at' Auckland and several 1 other places./.Atmospheric pressure has I increased, and.a further rise is forecasted ! soon. Cold 'and.showery conditions aro . probable generally, with more sleet and snow in the South. A very cold night is likoly generally. Sene will be very heavy on all the western coast, heavy south of Castlopoirit, and rough elsewhere. Squally winds, strong to gale, may also bo oxpeoted.
