THE CALLS TO CAMP

A WORD OF. CAUTION,

Numbers of reservists who have received notice to parade for camp at a certain date, are curious to know how their position is affected by recent references to a prospective reduction of reinforcements. The following is a typical reply sent by the Minister of Defence.to a typical enquiry :— p

''So far as the Defence authorities are able to judge at present, men unden ' orders' tp parade for the August, September, and October drafts will be re- ; quired. to . concentrate, on the dates as ■ arranged. If unforeseen circumstances ■ should enable the Department to postpone the calling up of men in these drafts,- an opportunity will be always given to anj man who has completed his. \ arrangements to go to camp on the date ' originally ordered."

The latest information obtainable from the Director of Recruiting is that the .Tuly, August, and September drafts are complete, and that recruits, both; volunteers and balloted men, are now being posted to the October draft. The July draft mobilising this week ie a small one,'but Augtist and ' September reinforcements axe both of about 1400 men. It cannot yet be stated what wiE be done with respect to the October draft, but it is "probable that it will bfe filled! without calling upon any of the men drawn in the latest C Class ballot. These men would in the ordinary course be available for the November draft;' but whether they will then be called upon depends upon the.uumbers of A and B 1 men held over, the accretions from the First Division, and the size of the Reinforcements.
