TOWN HALL ORGAN RECITAL

• I The hailstorm last night affected the' attendance at the weekly recital by Mr. Bernard F. Page, City Organist, but the j interesting programme announced was rendered without curtailment. I'aulke's Sonata in D Minor was the first number. The opening moderato is a characteristic piece of organ work, dignified, but by no means heavy. The sustained beauty of the adagio forms a pleasing contrast both to the preceding movement and to ! the impressive allegro which forms the finala. Tin: colourins of the three Norwegian melodies by Grieg proved both quaint and rich, and is racy of that romantic land. They were thoroughly enjoyable.. The "YValdweben" music, from .Wagner's "Siegfried," which has not heen heard for some time, again delighted the audience with its wonderful soundpictures of winds, woods, .and birds, and its thrilling climax. The Elegy from the "King Christian II." music of Sibelius— naturally in a somkre vein—was followed by a very charming and original Berceuse by Rebikoff, and the'recital concluded with a Brilliant rendering of Sandiford Turner's dashing Scherzo in F Minor.
