THE ENEMY'S FOOD

NEW AUSTRIAN RATIONS

THE GERMAN MEATLESS WEEK.

(AUSTRALIAN-MEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 16, 1 p.m.)

LONDON, 15th July. According to the Berne correspondent of the Daily News, the daily ration in Austria is now three ounces of bread, an ounce of meat, quarter of an ounce of fat, two and a-half ounces of potatoes, three-quarters of an ounce of jam, and a quarter of an ounce of coffee. (Received July 16, 1 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, 15th July. It is expected that the meatless week once a month in Germany will save 300,000 head of cattle, and will result in an increase in the daily supply of milk by 750,000 kilos (about 165,000 gallons). The limitation is absolutely necessary owing to the shortage of swine, necessitating the killing of cattle, which are themselves untiCrsized owing to the shortage of fodder.
