PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE

NEW PREMISES IN STOUT AND

BALLANCE STREETS.

For some time 1 past the accommodation in the Public Trust Building at Wellington has been found inadequate to meet the large and growing needs of the Department, and it became urgently necessary that further accommodation should be sought.

Some relief was obtained by leasing premises in Ballance-street to accommodate the staff of the local Deputy Public Trustee, Wellington, and additional premises in the A.B.C. Buildings,. Lambtonquay, for the accommodation of the Intestacy Division of the Head Office. This action was regarded as a temporary expedient only, pending the obtaining of additional permanent accommodation. The office has now been fortunate in securing the building at the corner of Stout and Ballance streets in the occupation of the Civil Service Club, and extensive alterations and renovations have been made on the ground floor with the object of fitting it for the occupation of the local Deputy Public Trustee, Wellington, and his staff. It is expected that the transfer of the staff to the new premises will take place at an early date.

The accommodation now provided is in every way suitable for the performance of the work of the office, and should result in greater convenience both to the public and to the office staff. As soon as the existing tenancies on the first and second floors in the' new building are terminated, it is intended to fit up the additional space for office accommodation, and to transfer some of tlie divisions at present accommodated in the head office building. As the new premises adjoin the main Public Thrust Office Building, means of inter-communication will be provided without difficulty.
