(UNITED FjMil ABBOCUTION.— COPtBIOHT^ (Received July 15, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, 13th July. The Treasury has sanctioned the amalgamation of the London Joint Stock Bank with th« London City and Midland Bank.; The combined deposits amount to nearly 5300,000,000. This is said to be by far the largest banking, institution in Great Britain.

The London Joint Stock Bank -was founded in 1836. It absorbed the York City and County Bank, which itself had absorbed several Yorkshire banks at various times since 1894. The' London City arid: Midland Bank was also established in 1836. Since 1851 it has absorbed or, amalgamated .with twenty-six banks, mainly provincial institutions.
