TRANSFERS AND PROMOTIONS

LONDON, 17th May.

. The-late Major-Gen. R. H. Davies's son, Act.-Capt. H. C. Davies, R.E., left New Zealand with the Wellington Rgt., in the Main Body, and got his discharge from the N.Z.E.F. in Egypt in April, 1915, for an Imperial commission. This he obtained in the Royal Engineers, and became at once orderly officer to his father. He was promoted Lt. in October, 1916, and Act.-Capt in April of the following year.

Q.M.S. J. R. Whitta,. C.M.E., was nominated for an Imperial commission a year ago. He was posted to the Essex Yeomanry last September. Pte. C. T. Wildsmith, Ist Batt. W.1.R., has been granted his discharge for a commission in the R.A.F. Mr. W. L. Parsons has attested with the N.Z.E.F. in the United Kingdom, and has been drafted to the M.G.C.

Eng.-Lt. D. F. Bauchop, R.N. (Christchurch), is now Assistant to the Manager of Mining Depots. Lt. J. D. Boys, R.G.A., is with a British siege battery in Italy. He was in the Wellington Infantry in the Main Body, and got his commission in the R.F.A. in February last. Lt. R. H. Baigeiit, R.N.R. (Nelson), who has been serving in a submarine for over a year, has been transferred to another submarine. Gnr. B. A. Keys, N.Z.F.A., 50918, and Pte. J. S. Short, 2/0.1.8., 4E389, have been discharged from the N.Z.E.F. for commissions in the R.N.R.

Sister 'C. A. M. M'lntyre" N.Z.A.N.S., 22/210,' has been granted three weeks' sick leave from the No. 14 Gen. Hosp. Lt. C. H. Wilkinson has been suffering from severe gunshot wounds in the hip and eye, and since being moved from hospital at Rouen he has been under treatment at the Eccleston-squaro Hospital. Sapper J. Jardine (Dunedin) of the Royal Engineers, went to Egypt in 1915 with the 2nd Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, and, being, invalided to New Zealand a year later, was discharged medically unfit. He at once came to England, and enlisting in the Gordon Highlanders, went to the front again in December, 1916. After, being wounded he was transferred to the Royal Engineers, and last month he was again invalided with gas poisoning. He is now in the War Hospital at Bath. Lieutenants J. H. and G. H. Grigg (Cliristchurch) have transferred from tho North Irish Horse to the Royal Field Artillery, in which another brother already holds a. commission. Lance-Corporal A. J. Burton, who was captured by the Germans on the Western front in August last year, has reached England on repatriation. Corporal Burton, who comes from Taradale, Hawkes Bay, and belonged to tho 2nd Battalion, Wellington Regiment, received a very severe wound in the head, a bullet going in through the top of the' ekull and out at tho back. He was taken to a German hospital in Belgium, and by good fortune, the German military doctors took a very keen interest in his case. Burton was at first quite paralysed, but he underwent several operations, and eventually began to make a recovery. His chief trouble then was lack of food, but the parcels from the New Zealand Prisoners of War Department in . London commenced to reach him, and before returning to England he put on four stone in weight. He has now almost recovered, the chief trace of his injury being paralysis of one foot. Even this it is hoped before long to cure. Corporal Burton is in King George's Hospital, London. Mr. C. M. Webb has recently attested in England with the N.Z.E.F. He has been drafted-to the N.Z.F.A. as a gunner, and his number is 28040.

Mr. C. R, Howorth (Wellington Harbour Board), untij recently private in the N.Z.M.C, is now assistant^ paymaster, R.N.R., and is stationed at Portsmouth. His transfer was made last April.

Mr. W. A. Thompson, C.M.M., R.N.V.R., is in H.M.S. in the Mediterranean.

Lieutenant H. H. D. Bothamley, R.A.F. (Wellington) ie making a good recovery from his illness. Capt. H. Holderness, N.Z.R.8., is appointed Staff-Capt. to the Ist Infantry Brigade.

Capt. H. E. Barrowclough, M.C, N.Z.R.8., is a temporary major, and Lts. N. L. Macky, M.C, and J. G. Greenwood are temp. Capts. 2nd Lt. W. M. Te Heu Heu is transferred .from the Pioneers to the A.S.C.

Lt. E. G. Anderson, M.8., who graduated at London Hospital and joined the R.A.M.C. two years ago in the First South Midland Field Ambulance, has attested with the N.Z.E.F. in England.

Lts. J. R, Wells, M.8., W. P. P. Gordon, M.8., and H. R. Gibson, M.8., N.Z.M.C, are promoted Capt. on completing tho prescribed term of service.

Capt. W. R. Reyburn, Dental Corps, is taken on the strength of the N.Z.E.F. from a hospital ship, and Capt. C. G. Gray goes to New Zealand in a hospital ship. . . The Rev. T. B. Segrief, C.F. 4th cl. becomes Assist.-Priucipal Chaplain for the Roman Catholic Church in place of the Rev. P. J. O'Neill, who is posted for duty in England.

Mr. R. P. Murray, and Mr. W. E. Philpott, both R.N.R., have been appointed Assist.-Paymasters in H.M.S. JSfew Zealand.

Cpl. C. D. Pratt, N.Z.E., now has a commission in the general list, and has been posted to a School of Military Aeronautics.
