A NEW SWEDISH AEROPLANE
The Swedish flight lieutenant Porat has built an aeroplane which is causing a great deal of-interest in-trade circles. According to a t Swedish journal, the Porat machine has a two-decker,, which is ntade of steel throughout, the only wooden parts being' the propeller and the seats. It is small, very straightly built, and is fitted with a 160 h.p. watercooled Mercedes engine. The measurement of the wings is not quite 30ft.. A peculiarity of the wings is that the two planes are Dot directly ifbove one another, the lower ones being three-quart-ers further back than the top planes. The machine is claimed to have a speed of nearly 95 miles, and rises 10C0 metres between four or five minutes.
The American authorities estimate that the Germans have 1000 aeroplanes in operation on the Western front on any single day, but they, argue, that as Germany lias standardised practically since tho beginning it is impossible for.her to continue increasingl her production to the extent needed to keep pacu with the Allies. .
