A CHASER CLAIMS A VICTIM
(Received June 13, 3 p.m.)
WASHINGTON, 12th June.
It is practically certain that a chaser sank a U-boat on the Bth off the Virginia coast. The chaser suddenly encountered a submarine with periscope showing. The vessels circled each other for several minutes at a hundred yards' distance, when the chaser made a dash over the U-boat and dropped a depth bomb. The periscope disappeared, and oil rose to the surface. The explosion lifted up the chaser. It is reported that three caps of German sailors were found in the vicinity.
