In the Christchurch Magistrate's Court, before Mr, T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., a seaman, ,Carl Ohgre.n, proceeded, against the master of a vessel at Lyttelton for £47 13s 6d, as damages for an injury which plaintiff alleged .the captain had inflicted by ; /assaulting., hij^.^ ,P}ain tiff's, counsel said ,that the captain admitted the assault. Three sailors' Ka'd 'sworn that they had seen the captain strike the plaintiff with his closed fist, and there was no r&ason to believe that they were telling untruths. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £10. In response to a request that the Alagistrate make an order for the cancellation of plaintiff's articles, so that he could eithefland in the country of else go back on another ship, the Magistrate said he would consider-the question..

Donne, secretary to the New Zealand in London, has, says tho Post's' London correspondent, completed his medical course at the Middlesex Hospital, where he has now obtained his ■degree. -Dr. Donne has been house surgeon at tho hospital for some months past-.
