PALESTINE FRONT
FINE SUCCESS ON THE COAST
PERFECTLY EXECUTED OPERATION.
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 11th June. Writing from British Headquarters in Palestine on 10th Juno, Mr. W. T. Massey reports:—"Two highly successful operations materially improved our positions on the coastal sector at the end of May, by which the line was advanced a mile on seven miles of front. Wo hold all the ground gained. The statement in a highly-coloured Turkish communique that the enemy retook the hills by an immediate counter-attack is quite in-acuro-te, the fact being that several coun-ter-attacks were completely repulsed with heavy loss. About two miles north of Arsuf the enemy still had the advantage of observation over our new lines from two knolls. It was decided to eject them from these elevated positions on the ridge, and on. Saturday at daybreak the Scottish troops, moving up tho coast, got behind the Turkish trenches and rolled up the line, while the Indians, advancing behind our barrage, captured the high ground. All the Turks were accounted for, and 100 prisoners were taken. The operation was perfectly carried out, the two columns co-operating with fine precision."
