HUTT COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING- OF THE COUNCIL.
A meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held to-day, when there were present : Councillors J. Whiteman (chairman), P. Cavana-gh, W. Galloway, F. G. Cooper, M. W. Welch, and W. J. Howell.
In his monthly report the Inspector of Works (Mr. J. W. ■Cudby) stated that a considerable amount of metalling had been done in Wainui-o-mata Valley, between the top and the bottom of the hill. About half the distance was metalled, and tho remainder patched as required. The unmetalled portion of Fitzherbert Swamp-road had been metalled at tho north end for a distance of about six chains, and the road from the foot of the hill to the junction with Morris Valley-road was being attended to. The road from Paremata to Horokiwi Valley-road was also being repaired. Stone crates had been added to and put in order where the stream had encroached at Horolriwi, just south of the bridge. Several small slips had been removed from Gollan's valley Hill-road, and^ pipes had been, sent across for channelling a short length in Kotara-road, Day's Bay.
A motion put forward by Councillor Oavanagh that the salaries of the official staff and the inspector be increased, was defeated. (Proceeding.)
