FIRST DIVISION C 2 MEN

THE ISSUING OF NOTICES.

A correspondent, " Interested," writes to The Post, enquiring what position has been reached in relation to notifying First Division Reservists classed 02 that they are not to be called up for further medical examination. '.'The Minister of Defence," he writes, "has publicly stated that the medical papers of all C 2 Class of the First Division (volunteer and balloted men) would be carefully checked by a special medical board, and the men affected advised of the result. How does he account for the fact there are numerous men who have not been advised how they stand? This was to be done before the married men with children were taken into camp, but it appears as if it is not to be so."

Enquiries made by a Post reporter elicited the ■ official statement that of First Division men drawn in the ballot 35,000 have been classed C 2, and of this total 21,000 have been notified as a result of examination of their medical papers that they will not be called up for re-examination. Of the balance of 14,000, it has been decided to re-examine 13;000. A great number of these have already been put through by. the special C 2 Re-examination Board which is travelling throughout the country, and the balance are being notified to parade as progress is made. This leaves 1000 or 1200 cases still undisposed of, and a great number of these are being held over for further review. Consequently, very few notices stating that the Reservist will not be called up for re-examina-tion remain to be issued. The above figures, it is emphasised, only apply to balloted men, and do not include voluntary recruits.

Those men who have not so far received their notices, and wish to ascertain their position, may do so by writing to the Director of Recruiting, Clarkson's Buildings, Inglewood-place, Wellington. They will be advised in due course.
