MAGISTRATE'S COURT
PETONE SITTING.
The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held to-day, before' Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M. Peter O'Carroll for a breach of a prohibition order was fined £2, with 7e costs. P. L. Swaggers, for riding a bicycle at night without a light, was fined 10s and 7s- costs. For failing to attend drill as required by the Military Service Act, Mafeking Greer, Hugh Allen, and R. R; Cameron were each fined £3 with 7s coste, or in default 21 days' military detention. On a similar charge A. A. Symes wan fined £2 with 7e costs, or in default 14 days' detention. For failing to send her child to school Sylvia Stokes was fined 10s with 7s costs. J. F.'. Bowles and Hapi Love were similarly charged, but pleaded extenuating circumntances, in thai they were unable to bring their, children back from the South Island owing to bad weather interfering with communications. They were convicted and discharged. R. Swaysland, for whom Mr. B. P. Bunny appeared, proceeded against John Barnes to have him bound over to keep the peace owing to the alleged use of insulting language. After hearing the evi<J^nce,'the Magistrate said the case, would be met by a fine, and defendant was convicted and fined £1, with £1 Us costs. In the civil case, Union Clothing Company v. Charity Barnes, judgment by default was gtveii for plaintiff for £1 18s and 56 costs. In a judgment summons case Thomas" 'Wakh was ordered to pay to the Union Clothing Company the sum of £4 Is by weekly instalments of sa, in default to'be imprisoned for fourteen days.
Two boys were charged with the theft of some fowls. The elder lad, 15 years of age,- was committed to the Weraroa Training Farm, and the younger, 12 years of age, to Stoke Orphanage, it being "del-stood that the latter defendant wuld be under the.control of the Probation Officer,' who premised in Court to find a situation for him on a farm up country.
