DISTRIBUTION OF THE MONEY.

The total number of bales of wool valued under the requisition scheme for the Imperial • Government since Ist December, 1916;, to the 16th February, 1918, is 905,914, of which 861,503 have been paid for, representing a value of £20,591,641. This amount has been distributed amongst growers in the undermentioned provincial districts :—

North Island: Auckland, £1,422,906 3s; Poverty Bay, £1,883,320 5s sd; Hawkes, Bay, £3,380,966 9s 2d; Tara,naki, £288,834 8s 4d; Wanganui, £1,202,658 13s lOd; Wellington, £4,897,----273 3s 2d'j total, £13,075,959 2s lid.

South' Island: Nelson, £249,036 17s Id ; Marlboiough, £416,337 16s 6d ; Canterbury, £3,017,261 7s 9d; Otago, £1,711,310 13s 7d; Southland, £986,565 Is 8d; total, £6,380,511 16s 7d; plus charges, £1,135,170 17s 9d. Grand total, £20,591,641 17s 3d.

The total quantities of wool in bale valued so far dealt with at the undermentioned valuing centres is-as under :— Auckland, 65,623 ; Tokomaru Bay, 83fl> ; Tologa Bay, 7555 ; Gisbome," 65,335 ; Napier, 146,816; New Plymouth, 11,951; Wanganui, 52,161; Wellington, 204,635; Nelson, 11,938; Blenheim, 19,109; Christchurch, 93,767; Timaru, 44,009; Oamaru, 17,294; Dunedin, 63,137; Invercargill,'49,7B6; total, 861,503 bales.

.Of the 1917-18 clip 408,000 bales ha.ye already been valued, and it is anticipated that by' the end of March the bulk of that clip will have been valued and paid for. Shipments of wool to date total 462,865 bales. Of this quantity 8865 have ..been lost in transit as a result of the enemy's submarine campaign. The Imperial Supplies Department, which has handled all this " big business" in wool, has, in addition, arranged details for the advance of £1,401,871 against 58,246 bales of freezing companies' slipe wool. Of the number of bales of this wool mentioned 49,761 have been already shipped.

■ The total amount paid to date in respect of wool and sheepskins is £22,672,064. It is estimated that further payments to the end of March will absorb approximately £3,500,000, making the total payment for wool under the scheme approximately well over £26,000,----000.

The largest individual valuation by 'any one broker, represented 5588 bales, valued at £138,799, was submitted by the Hawkes Bay Farmers'" Co-operative Association, Ltd. . The largest complete valuation at any one centre was held at Napier, and represented 12,970 bales, valued at £321,063. The largest amount remitted in any one day by the Department of Imperial Supplies on account of wool was £558,133 on the 28th December, 1917.
