Acknowledgement has been received by the Education Board from the High Commissioner of the funds collected by Wellington district school children- in aid of little sufferers by air raids. Over £700 has been collected, and £500 was cabled at once. The High Commissioner advised that he had distributed £400 as follows: Lord Mayor of London, £200; London' County Council, £50; Mayor of Poplar, £50; Mayor of Margate, £50; Mayor of Ramsgate, £50. The balance was being held for distribution when necessary. "Meantime," the High Commissioner wrote, "I should be glad if you will tender to the children attending the schools in your district the grateful thaAks and appreciation of the child sufferers who have been assisted through their generosity, and, at the same time, please add my" personal thanks for their kind thoughtfulness."

Latest admissions to the Wellington Hospital include the victims of two painful accidents. While riding a bicycle in Adelaide-road, George Millar, aged 23 years, who resides at No. 3 John-street, accidentally fell off, and struck his head on the roadway. He sustained concussion, and was taken to the hospitaf in an insensible condition, but recovered later, and is reported to be doing as. well as can be expected. Frederick Williams, who resides in Martin-street, and is an employee at the Champion Confectionery Company's factory, had the little finger of his left hand taken off through being •caught in some machinery. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. .

When the lisf. of persons appointed to be pupil-teachers and probationers was placed before the Education Board today, the secretary noted that there were only three male appointees. "Not to be wondered at," remarked a member of the board.

■A meeting of the Lower Hutt branch of the Central Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. Mr. H. Baldwin was elected permanent chairman and Mr. J. Wray hon. secretary. Mr. A. L. Messrs. Manley and Meadows insert a new list of properties for sale. A meeting of tho Anglican Boys' Homo Society is called by advertisement in another column for the purpose of authorising expenditure necessary■for extension of the society's work. Messrs. E.
