ANNUAL MEETING CONCLUDED,
The annual general meeting of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers was continued yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. Blair Mason presiding. VISITS TO WORKS. Announcements were made concerning arrangements which have been made for visits to various works in and around the city aa follow : — Thursday Afternoon : Harbour works, slipway and gasworks, Miramar. Friday Morning: Karon reservoirs, etc. ■ „ Friday Afternoon: Petone Railway Workshops. Saturday Morning : Municipal works ELECTIONS. There was only one nomination for each of the offices of president, vice-president, and hon. secretary, which were filled as follow:—President, Mr. S. A. R. Mair; vice-president, Mr. A. J. PateTson; hon. secretary, Mr. F. \T. Furkert. There were six nominations to fill three vacancies on the council, and the ballot resulted in Messrs. Charles Banks, J. Blair Mason, and Wj. J. Roche being elected. GENERAL BUSINESS. There was 'gome discussion as to where the next annual meeting should be held. At last conference it was decided that the 1918 gathering should be. held in Auckland should the war be ended. Yesterday Mr. A. J. Paterson I (Wellington) moved that the 1919 conference be held at Auckland without any reservation whatever. This was opposed by Mr. Staveley (Wanganui), who advocated the claims of the smaller centres. Mr. Paterson's motion, however, was carried with only one dissentient. Mr. Clapcott ilrr/arcargiU) spoke in support of the standardisation throughout tile Dominion of all sanitary fittings. Convenience- and economy would result, he said, from ihe adoption of such a system, and, on his suggestion, a cornmil tee was appointed to enquire into the possibilities of the proposal. • ' The President delivered a comprehensive address dealing most exhaustively with the communications—road, rail, and sea —of the Dominion. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr. E, W. Holmes.
The, remainder of the sitting was devoted to the reading and discussion of papers on various subjects.
