SERIOUS CHARGE DISMISSED

INVERCARGILL, 19th February. Recently Annie Casey, while returning from her mother's to where she was employed, disappeared, but turned up later, making allegations upon which a, ycung district farmer, Samuel Muir, was arrested upon a charge of rape. The case was tried to-day, when the girl and eight others gave evidence. Mr. Hanlon (Dunedin) addressed the court, after which the Magistrate (Mr. _ Cruickshank) dismissed ths" case, remarking that from the girl's statement it was clear to him she could have avoided the accused's attention if she had desired to.
