MIRAMAE CLUB.

In its annual report, the committee of tho Miramar Golf Club states that a heavy drain on the club's membership has continued during the year, owing to members going away to the front, and though new members have, been elected, the club's revenue shows a falling off of £122 17s 10d. On the expenditure side, the items which show an increase are rates and taxes, amounting to £419 5s ; 3d. The revenue loss for the past, year' was £406 10s lOd. The committee appeals to members to do what .they can, to help the club's finances by introducing new members. Further, if there are any • shortcomings in the"'course upkeep, the committee hopes that members will bear in mind that, whilst so many are away on active service, very little money can be expended in upkeep. During the year £200 was used for the repayment of debentures, and the sum of £510 has been paid off the purchase money, and ,£65 10s 2d repaid to the Wellington Deposit, Mortgage, and Building Society in reduction of mortgage. The surplus of assets over liabilities shows £180 8s 6d, and the surplus in Sinking Fund Account is £321 18s 4d. During the season the club sustained a great loss in the death of W. T; Doughty, who was killed, in action. His parents have donated to the club a solid silver memorial cup, and it has been decided that this will be played for annually in a men's foursome. In August last the committee appealed to members for funds to do certain drainage work on the links, and the appeal was well responded to, the sum collected being £105 19s 3d. ' Owing to faulty drainage in the club house it was found necessary to make additions to the outbuilding, and this was undertaken at a cost of £268 16s 2d," provided for out of debenture moneys. During the year the matter of tax-on sports lands was taken up by the committee, and as a result, together with the joint action of other clubs, the Bill was altered, reducing the tax by 60 per cent. The committee Feels.that tliis is not suffiJ cient, and hopes' that further action, will be taken, with a view of getting a special valuation of sports lands, in pla6e of the 50 per cent, reduction in the rate. „ The j land tax last- year was £50 7s 9d, as ! against £18 18s in 1917. i ■
