MILITARY SERVICE

THIRD WELLINGTON BOARD.

The sittings of the Third Wellington Military Service Board were continued yesterday afternoon. Mr. D. M. Findlay presided, and with him were Messrs. D. M'Lareu and A. O'L. Considine. Captain P. Baldwin was the military repre'6entative. \

In the .appeal lodged by Nathan end Co. or behalf of Sydney Jacobs, Mr. C. P. ■ Skerrett, X.0., emphasised the great value of "Glaxo," manufactured by the firm, to the Imperial authorities, who had commandeered ail the supplies in New Zealand and in England, and who had urged increased production in New Zealand. It would be impossible to accede to this request if Jacobs had to go to. camp, as he was in charge of that 1 department, although not actually taking part in the manufacture. An inexperienced man, it was pointed out, would find it very difficult, if not impossible, to handle the problems of transport, supply, and finance, as dealt with by Jacobs. Influenced by the apparent value of "Glaxo" to the Imperial authorities, the board granted exemption sino die to i Jacobs, a condition being that no appeal [ is made for another man in the same department who has been called up. On the application of Mr. M. J. Reardon, A. D. Williams, a slaughterman (now in Cl Camp at Tauherenikau) was granted exemption sine die on the usual conditions. The appeal of S. E. Salter, Lower Hutt, on religious grounds, was dismiss--ed. Temporary leave—until 26th May—was allowed to R. T. Alexander, farrier. Wellington.
