ALLEGED LIBEL

CASE AGAINST JOHN BULL NEWS-

PAPER WITHDRAWN.

In the Supreme Court this morning, before His ; Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert "Stout), the case was called of Charles, John Ward v. the John Bull 'Newspaper Proprietary, claim of £250 for alleged libel. Mr. A. W. Blair appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. A: Dunn ior the defendant company.

Mr. Blair said that plaintiff was,a contractor, who made the i,majority' of!, the boots used by the troops. On 16th June last the newspaper published a paragraph to the effect that Ward was manufacturing the boots on premises owned by a German. The defendant now admitted that the statement was not justified, and had paid a pertain sum to the War Relief Association. Counsel therefore asked that the case be withdrawn.

. Mr. Dunn said he was prepared to' admit that an unfortunate error had been made, aiid to express regret therefor. The case was accordingly withdrawn.
