DESERT GOLD WINS ST. GEORGE'S STAKES. (UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIGIIT.I MELBOURNE, 16th February. The following are the results of'the principal events at the V.A.T.C. Meeting, at Caulfield, on Saturday :— Oakleigh Plate, of 1350 soys. , Five furlongs and a-half. Poitrina, 8.11 i Delinacre, 8.2 2 Blue, Cross, 7.7 3 Twenty-four started. Won by one length and a-half. Time, lmin 6^sec— an Australasian record. St. George's Stakes, of 650 soys. Nine furlongs. Weight-for-age. Desert Gold, B.l3.(M'Lauchlan) ... 1 Cetigne, 9.0 2 Wallace Isinglass, 9.0 3 Eight started. Cetigne was' the first I to move out. Desert Gold took charge after the first furlong, and led from Prince Bardolph and Cetigne. Passing the stand, she was two lengths ahead of Cetigne, who had displaced Prince Bardolph. After entering the straight.. Cetigne made a desperate effort and neared the favourite, who, when called on, came away and won by a length. ' Wallace Isinglass finished four lengths behind Cetigne. Time, lmin 52-|sec. Salisbury Welter, of 200 soys. Seven furlongs. Kilflinn i Bourlang 2 i Sauci 3| Twenty-eight started, including Red Signal and Killem. Won by a length. Time, lmin 28fsec. Beltane ran, but was unplaced, in the Bond Cup.
