Sir James Allen-, Minister of Defence,-, returns from the South to-morrow.

News has been received that Sergeant J. H. Luke (son of Mrs. Samuel Luke, of Wellington, and a nephew of the Mayor), who was seriously wounded, is returning 'to New Zealand.

The Chairman of the First Wellington Military Service Board' (Mr. 'D. G. A. Cooper) and Mr. D. M'Laren, a member of the board, .will leave for Napier on Tuesday on official business.

Dr. H. R. Mill, Director of the British Rainfall Organisation, who visited New Zealand about five years ago, hae been awarded the Symons Gold Medal for 1918 by the Royal Meteorological Society for his work in connection with meteorological science.

Major R. A. Wilson., R.G.A., has been mentioned in despatches—the second time in his year's service—for good; work done with his battery at the Battle of Messines. He has now returned to the front after 'a short course of gunneryft in England. He' writes in good spirits, and is very keen on his work.
