EXTENSIVE FRENCH RAID

THIRD GERMAN LINE REACHED IN THE CHAMPAGNE

A French official communique states: In the Champagn* we made an extensive raid south-west of Butte de Mesnil on a 1200 yards front., and penetrated the enemy's position as far as his third line. We shattered his defences and destroyed a number of dug-outs. American batteries gave most effective assistance. We have organised.the captured positions. Twenty-eight enemy aeroplanes were brought down between Ist and 10th February, of winch fourteen were entirely destroyed.
