RECOMMENDATIONS OF COUNCIL OP EDUCATION At the General Council of Education yesterday the following committee report -was received *gardirig the establishment of high- schools, etc. :— Hawer*,—(a) /That the Minister be advised to establish a technical high school at Hawera under the provisions of section 88 of the Education Act, (b) That such a. high school be not established until the parent's of at least sixty pupils with certificates of proficiency have expressed in writing their intention of enrollirfg them in such school. ' Feilding.—(a) That the Minister be advised to establish a technical high school at Feilding under the provisions of section 88 of the Education Act. (b) That the Minister be advised that such a school be nit established until a site of at least six acres is locally provided. *. Lyttelton.-t(a) That the Minister be advised to take no action regarding tha disestablishment of . the Lyttelton District \High School at present, (b) That the matter be reconsidered if the average attendance fal)s below 20. Taumarunui—That the . Minister be advised to, establish a. district high school at Taumarunui in accordance with the terms of section 88 of the Education Act. , ; ■ / Helensville.—That the, Minister be informed that the. council; is unable to advise the- establishment at present of a district high school at Helensville. , Mata Mata.—That the Minister bo advised to establish a district high school at Mata Mata under the terms of section 88 of the Act. .. " ' • Auckland Grammar School Fees.— That the Minister be advised to accede to the request of the Auckland Grammar School for. an increase of the fees to £10 10s for pupils under" thirteen and £13 10s for pupils over thirteen. Secondary School: Schemes of Control —That schemes of control of girls' secondary schools be modified so as to require that air girls exclusive of those in any lower departments shall take ■ home science, as prescribed for junior free pupils. . ■''■''.:■ Wellington College Scheme of Control.—(a) That the scheme as submitted be amended with respect-to Clause 2, Sub-clause (2)/ by adding: "Provided that all girls, not being pupils in tho lower,department, shall receive instruction in home science in such mannep aa is necessary to comply with the conditions for free places.: (b) That if neces- | sary.-a new clause be inserted providing the method of appointment of a member of the Education Board, (c) That the Minister be advised-to approve of the scheme as amended.' r'■ ' ■ Methven and,,Blackball.—That consideration of the application for the establishment of a district high school be deferred for further information. Pukekohe.—That the motion* passed by the council on 21st June, 1917, referring to the type of high school to bo established' at -Pukekoh© be rescinded, and that the Minister be advised to* establish a technical high school in the terms of Section 88 of the Education Act, and in the like regard that the District High School be disestablished.. .
