Schmidt, mate on the Waverley, haß come ashore "A DISABLED SCHOONER | At about 0.50 a.m. yesterday the auxiliary , schooner Huanui, in tow of the Wairau, arrived in Wellington from Port Underwood, where she had been sheltering for a week, ow- j ing to an accident to her foremast. Anchor was dropped in the stream, and the Wairo-u proceeded to the wharf. On her trip from Onehunga to Dunedin with a load of timber the Huanui was without auxiliary power, the engineer, Private J. S. Gibbons (a son of the harbourmaster at Onehunga) having gone into camp and no other engineer being available. Captain C. Anderson was iv charge of the vessel. ■ ' '. On the night of the 19th January, when the Huanui was battling against a southerly gale the foremost snapped about 25ft above the deck. When the accident happened the schooner was eight miles oil White Bluff, between Cape Campbell and the Wairau, bar. She then made for Port Underwood for shelter. The Wairau took her in tow at 9 o'clock on Saturday night, and good weather was experienced coming across the strait, ton hours being occupied in the trip. The Huanui is a wooden vessel of about 70 tons register. The stepping of a new mast is expected, to take some time
