SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT
MR. J. T. PATUKE TO BE
NOMINATED.

INVERCARGILL, 25th January-' In response to a delegation, Mr. John Topi Patuke, of Bluff and Ruapuke, ha 3 has consented to nomination for the Southern Maori seat. He is a son of the late King Topi, a great chieftain of the Ngatah'u and Ngatimamoe tribes, is a well-educated man of independent means, and a staunch supporter of the National Government.
Mr. Patuke completed his education at Te Aute College, following which he had seveT&l years' commercial training with Messrs. M'Pherson and Co., Invercargill. Later he made two trips to England. On more than one occasion he has attempted to take his part in the war, but an accident to an ankle in his football daye at college prevented his services being accepted.
