EXCESSIVE SPEED
A MOTORIST FINED.
A motorist'named Cecil Brown was proceeded against at the Magistrate's Court to-day, few a breach of the motor bylaws, in driving round the corner from Kil-birnie-crescent into the Seatoun Bay-road, at a greater speed than six milee an hour. On 3rd December defendant was driving a party from the fete at the Kilbirnie Park, and as the car rounded the corner a young woman, who was walking across the road engrossed in a newspaper, was struck inthe side by the lamp of the car and knocked down. A witness called by Mr. J. O'Shea, who appeared for the prosecution, stated that the car turned the corner at about fifteen miles an hour, but the evidence called by Mr. H. F. O'Leary was to the effect that the corner was *aken a.t about five or fiix miles an hour, and the car was accelerated to about fifteen miles an hour in order to climb a rise in the road as econ as it was on the straight. The horn was blown aa the car approached, the corner, and again as it neared the young woman, .but she did not appear to notice the car until it was practically up to her. After reviewing the evidence, Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., said that it appeared to him that the comer had been turned at an excessive speed, and inflicted a- fine of £2 and expense's.
