The people of the country districts in New • Zealand have a substantial grievance against the Defence Department iv the matter of the publication of casualty lists (says the Wairarapa Ago). The lists sent to the provinces contain only the bare names of those killed and wounded, without the slightest reference to their next-of-kiu or tho locality in which they resided prior to enlistment. For newspaper purposes these lists are absolutely useless. The metropolitan, newspapers, on the other hand, are permitted, to publish tho fullest details. In fairness to the country distiicta, and in fairness to those who have relatives fighting at the front, the Defence Deportment should arrange for the addresses of killed and wounded to be ■(supplied to ..provincial newspaper
