LEVIN'S POPULAR AMUSEMENT RENDEZVOUS.
Mr. J. W. Farland, proprietor of the Levin Picture Theatre, has made' it possible for residents of that town and district to enjoy on equal terms as to merit with any city dweller the finest and most exclusive picture films the world produces. Farland's pictures are on every night'of the week excepting Monday, and in order to substantiate the statement made above as to' the quality of the programmes shown it need only be mentioned that the proprietor has the exclusive right to screen the following:—Metro, Triangle, Vitagraph, Pathe, World, Mutual, and Chanlin films, and all other leading productions. It will be admitted that a wonderful advance has been made in film 6of recent times, and the one outstanding change in the progress of the pictures is the seriousness with which the whole business is being undertaken. In the early days films were regarded as a sort of side show. To-day they occupy in the entertainment world the foremost place as regards brains, and the most popular form of amusement yet placed before the public. The fact that the industry is able to command 'the services ofj so many of the world's ■ best actors and actresses is a contributing cause for the wonderfully improved quality in pictures of late years. Jt must be admitted, too, that the work of a performer on the stage may vary with his moods.: In this respect the advantage is with the actor before the camera. He can repeat his performance until the limit of perfection has been reached. So in the picture world it is a matter of seeing the best actors being seen at their best. .
Great progress has been made in pictures, and greater triumphs still will be recorded in the future, and* the time is not far distant when specially selected or composed music, together with whatever effects are required, will be so embodied in the film as to' make the three one simultaneous whole. Juet as the picture is now/ projected on the screen so will be produced' by the one process the music and effects incidental thereto. When that time comes Farlond's will be ready and prepared to meet it. In other ■words, Mr. Fariand believes in.keeping abreast of the times, and nothing is left undone on his part to give Levin and district residents a, high claes programme with regular changes; from the best and most popular film producers in the world which are detailed at the head of this article, and for which Mr. Fariand had the foresight to secure the. exclusive right. Farland's -pictures are juetly popular with the people, who come from miles around to patronise them, and there is nothing that gives him greater .pleasure than to put on a show for the sole benefit of some deserving institution in the town. Only recently the school committee required funds- for carrying, out much-needed improvements ; ■the necessity was incidentally mentioned to Mr. Fariand, who at once arranged to give the whole proceeds from two entertainments to the committee. The result was magnificent, and co was- Mr. Farland's kind action.
