THIRD EDITION KAUANGAROA MURDER
CASE OF BENNIER
It is understood that the case of Frank Edward Bennier, who was sentenced to death at Wanganu'i on the 28th November for the murder of his wife at Kaiiangaroa, on 10th September, will be considered at a meeting of the Executive Council at Christchurch to-morrow. Subsequent to the trial and sentence the question of the sanity of Bennier was revised. Full enquiries were made at Nelson, Christchurch, and Invercargill, and a commission of three experts in mental diseases—Drs. Hay, Hassell, and Gow—had Bennier under observation for some time. The evidence taken at the trial and the judge's report have also been considered.
