BOROUGH INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

The monthly report of the Lower Hutt Borough Inspector, Mr. J. Gardiier', was presented at a meeting of the council last evening, and was ad6pted, with ;the exception of recommendations in respect to ■ consumers' fittings, which were referred to the Gas Committee. The Irispector in his report stated: — "During the month of December the amount of gas purchased from Petoiie was 1,223,000 cubic feet. The amount purchased during the corresponding month of last year was 1,038,000 cubic feet, showing an increased consumption of 185,000 cubic feet. The gas purchased from Petone during the past teii inbriths amounts to 12,601,500 cubic feet being an increase of 939,000 cubic feet over the corresponding ten months of la6fc year. The .amount of gas sold and accounted for during the month of November is "as follows:—Domestic, 862,000 cubic feet; power, 78,800 cubic feet; street lighting,' 66,100 cubic feet. Total accounted for 1.006,900 cubic feet, uniicc&uftted for 117,100 cubic feet, or 15.10 per cent. The amount of gas purchased and accounted , for during the nine months of the' present financial yeaiis as follows:— Purchased, 11,378,000 cubic feet; accounted for, 10,316,400 cubic feet; unaccounted for, 1,06L606 cubic feef, or 9.33 per cent.
