Sir James Allen (Minister of Defence), when in. Christchurch on Saturday, referred to criticisms of the new regulations dealing with Territorial parades. "It mu6t be remembered," he said, "that we have cut out a tremendous number of parades in the different centres. We have reduced things to a minimum. In addition to thai, no lad in the Territorial* who is required in an essential industry need have any trouble if there is the slightest reason for his exemption. These parades are the baeis of the training for the whole of our Expeditionary Force. I believe that the preliminary training 'through which the men have gone is one of the reasons why our division has done so well at the 'front, and I wish to goodness there wis more of it. But I do not want to be misunderstood. I do not want to interfere with industrial work in any way. It ie essential, however, that the training should be given to tha-ladi.".
