During the month of November there have been 992 new claims for war'pensiona dealt with—62o being from disabled soldiers and 372 from dependents of deceased or disabled soldiers. In addition, 691 renewals of existing pensions have been dealt, with. Of the 620 soldiers' claims, 14 were granted permanent pensions, 539 temporary pensions, 57 declined, and 10 adjourned. . -Of the 372 dependents' claims, 259 were granted pensions; ,63 temporary pensions, 36 declined, and 14 adjourned. The total number of claims dealt with during the past two years number 13,514; 8776 from soldiers and 4738 from dependents. Of the 8776 soldiers, 1109 have been granted permanent or semi-permanent pensions, 6823 temporary pensions, 619, declined, 12 adjourned, and 34 on hand. There are 179 camp cases fcaees where the men did not leave New Zealand).
Of the 4738 dependents, 3454 have been granted pensions, 719 temporary pensions, 414 declined, 18 adjourned, 114 on hand, and 19 camp cases. ' The annual value of Hie pensions granted during the month, of November was £56,827. For the period from Ist April, 1917, to 30th October, 1917, it was £509,----924. The total for the first eight months of the current financial year was £366,. 751. ; .■• * .
If thera is added to this sum the liability at the j>nd of 31st March last— th»t is, the annual value of the pensions Vhen in force—there is a grand total of £624,522. From this sum there has to be deducted the value of approximately 800 pensions that have been cancelled since Ist ..April last, amounting to £52,000. This leaves a ,net charge at the present moment against the Consolidated Fund of £572,522. .
