NEW ZEALAND CUP DAY SPRING MEETING AT RICCARTON (BX lELEOKAPH.—PEESS ASSOCIATION.) SOCKBURN, This Day. The Spring Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club opened to-day in. beautiful weather. There is a big attendance, and the going is good. Results :— Spring Hurdle Handicap, of 300 soys : two miles.—Compulsion, 10.7, 1; Don! Francisco, 9.7, 2; Portland Lady, 9.5 3 All started. Compulsion led all the way and won by three lengths. A head between second and third. Naupata and Crib fell. Time, 3min 45 4-ssec. Spring Plate, of 400 soys; one mile— Nanna, 7.2, 1; Rude, 7.4, 2;'Blacknll, 7.13, 3. Scratched: Blaekheath, Imaribbon, Bloomine, Johnny Walker, Jiissouri, and Kilrush. Joanna was infronfc at the distance, and won by three lengths. Two lengths between second and third Time lmin 40 3-ssec. Linwood Handicap, of 200 soys; seven furlongs.—The White King, 7.8 1Subterfuge, 7.3, 2; Spangle. 7.5, 3 Scratched : Vandubhe, Te Anau, Hennette.
