Mr. J. B. Clarkson has reformed to Wellington from a business trip abroad. The "Hon. King O'Malley, formerly Minister for Home Affairs for Australia, is at present in Auckland. Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner of Auckland, is at present on a visit to Wellington. ' Mr. G. L. Stead and Dr. J. Palmer, of Christchnrch, have returned from a visit abroad. Sergt.' Chas. Kelly, formerly in charge of Manners-street Police Station and later of Invercargill, has now taken charge of the Marlboroiigh district. ; Mr, Chas. Schilsky, examiner for Trinity College of Music, London, has arrived in Wellington, and has commenced the examination of local candidates. Mr. Phil Lynch, of the architectural staff- of the Public Works Department, Auckland, has been transferred on promotion to the Chemical Laboratory, Department of Agriculture, ■ Wellington. Trooper L. M'Williams (Melrose), who was badly wounded while fighting in Palestine (Gaza) in May last, has arrived, home, and is now an ininats of the Victoria Military Hospital, 'Newtown.

Mr. Justice Edwards, who has been an inmate of a private hospital- in Palmenston North since Wednesday last, suffering from a severe attack of bronchitis, is reported to be progressing favourably.

Private advice has been received by Mrs. M. R. Cole-Baker, of Onewhero, Auckland, that her son (Douglas P. G. Cole-Baker) has been awarded the Military Medal. In a letter his commanding officer states that the medal-winner, wont out several times under heavy, fire, and each time brought in a wounded man.

Information received by Mr. J. H. Skinner, of Auckland, states that his son (2nd Lieut. A. H. Skinner, Royal Flying Corps) has been miesirig since 16th September. Lieut. Skinner left New Zealand with the Main Body, and saw service on the Peninsula. He gained his .commission in the Aviation Corps in May last.

Mr. S.. E. Cooper, a popular business man of Napier, died on Saturday in the Wairoa Hospital. Mr. Cooper, who was 61 years of age, came to New Zealand when quite young and settled at Napier in 1870, carrying on business as a watchmaker and jeweller. He was for many years a member of the Napier Harbovyr Board, a Justice of the Peace,- and a keen follower of athletic sport 6.

A presentation was made this, morning to Gunner W. J. Conrojy, 31st N.Z.F.A., on the eve of his' departure for the front by Captain F. A. Bilton, Transport Shipping Officer, on behalf of the members of the Defence Staff at "X" shed, Waterloo-quay. Captain Bilton and Mr. TV Bland, in a few wellchosen words, referred to Gunner Conroy's service, and wished him every success and a safe return to Ne,w Zealand.

Hon. H. Stuart Littleton, chairman of the National Bank of New Zealand, at the annual meeting of the bank in London, referred to the management as follows: —"Let me ask for your due appreciation of the good work done for us, first by Mr. Duthie, our general manager in New Zealand, our assistant general manager, Mr. M'Lean, and by Mr. Willis, and our very careful inspectors, . and finally by all our loyal and capable staff, on whom the war has placed no inconsiderable extra strain, not forgetting 61 young ladies who are helping in the offices." Mr. J. H. B. Coates and Hon. W. P. Reeves were re-elected directors on this occasion.
