"LA MASCOTTE."

In every respect the Amateur Operatic Society's performance of "La Mascotte" is one cf which all concerned may justly be proud. The fascinating music, the brilliant ballets and scenas, the choruses, and all other features, are worthy of the best records of the society. Last night the performance went smoothly from the opening chorus to the final ensemble. Miss Helen Gardner aa Bettina won universal approbation. The effects of the cold, which marred her singing on the opening night, had passed to a great extent, and the "Glou Glou" duet with Mr.' Len. C. Barries (Pippo) was a most delightful number. To-night it is hoped Mies Gardner will have recovered completely, and will be able to sing the eongs which she has hitherto been obliged to omit. Miss I. Wijford was as sprightly as ever as Fiametta. Her dancing, when she appeared as the Zingari with the strolling players ("The Attractive Girl"), was most warmly applauded. Another clever dancer was Mias D. Saunders. Mr. Barnes's singing in the part of Pippo was again appreciated. His acting, too, indicated greater ease and a better conception of the character. A similar improvement was noted in the performance of Mr. H. F. Wood (Fritellinij. Mr. A. W. Newton, as Laurent XVII., and Mr. Alva Shaw, as Rocco, amused immensely with their quips and absurdities. Altogether, the presentation is one which should be seen by all theatre-goers whose liking is for the best in light opera.
